How to share your work schedule with your family, without the meeting details

Updated

Short answer

If your family uses Google Calendar and your company allows it, you can share your work calendar's free/busy information with them: they see blocks of busy time, with no details. If they use Apple Calendar, or your company blocks outside sharing, you need to copy your meetings onto a personal calendar they already see.

SyncBusy's reverse sync (Pro) does that copying: meetings you've accepted show up on a family-visible Google or iCloud calendar, and stay in step as they change.

Option 1: Share free/busy from your work account

In Google Calendar at work, open your calendar's settings, share it with your partner's Google address and choose See only free/busy (hide details). Many Google Workspace companies allow free/busy sharing outside the company, though administrators can turn it off.

Option 2: Copy meetings to a shared personal calendar

Create a calendar in your personal account (Google or iCloud), share it with your family, and add your meetings to it. That works in any calendar app your family uses, but doing it by hand means re-entering every meeting and every change.

Option 3: Reverse sync with SyncBusy (Pro)

Reverse sync copies your work meetings onto a personal calendar for you:

Reverse sync is part of Pro: $4 a month, $36 a year, or $50 once for Lifetime, with a 30-day refund. It works alongside the main sync, which puts your personal events on your work calendar as private busy blocks.

Questions

Will my family see my meeting titles?
Only if you choose the naming option that uses event titles. On "Busy (via SyncBusy)" or "Busy", they see when you're in a meeting and nothing about it.
Does reverse sync write to my personal calendar?
Yes, but only to the one calendar you choose for it. For Google, SyncBusy asks for permission to manage events when you turn reverse sync on; for iCloud it uses the app-specific password you already gave it. It never changes your other personal events.
Does my company allow this?
SyncBusy connects to your work calendar with your own Google sign-in. Some Google Workspace administrators restrict which outside apps can connect; if yours does, the sign-in is blocked and nothing is copied. Check your company's policy if you're unsure.
My work calendar is Outlook. Can I still do this?
Not with SyncBusy, which supports Google Calendar at work only. The comparison page lists tools that support Outlook.
